A nameless dog By Jason Brown A quick little story dealing with a most unusual hero- a basically forgotten dog left alone in a cruel somewhat futuristic Ireland. Through the dog's eyes, we get a glimpse into what kind of world the land of Eire has become, and it's not all leprechauns and fairies. It's as emotionally cold as New York City on a decent night, with a touch of Irish slang and droll humor that's only unlaughable since the character using it has no humor, so I can see it being intentional in that respect. I felt very sorry for the dog, interested in its viewpoint, smirking at some of its thoughts and hopes, and wouldn't mind seeing what happens to it in Mariah's Dream.

One night on a walk the dag meets another dog. A dog who is obviously loved. This leads the dog with no name to dream about the way his life could be.I loved the story, told from the dogs point of view, it had great voice and atmosphere. The Irish setting, though set in the far future, feels timeless. The ending, not quite a cliffhanger but still incomplete, leaves you begging for more.

The style of this short piece is so effortless I was captivated from the very beginning. Showing a futuristic world through the eyes of a mistreated dog somehow made the story more human and relatable. Probably because the whole approach puts a new twist on the world and makes you think about things differently. A great story to dive into for a little while, yet still a satisfying read.
