This novelette is divided into spring, summer, fall, and winter letters written by a "giddy sixteen-year-old" to her older, newly-married sister. Mistake-prone Nicole, the letter-writer, has taken full charge of the family cooking duties since her sister's marriage, much to her chagrin and to my amusement as a reader. As Nicole learns how to balance new responsibilities with old ones, she grows in her walk with Christ in a very down-to-earth way.A great book for young-to-mid-teens as well as for even younger children (or as a read-aloud), Letters from a Scatter-Brained Sister amuses and edifies with ease. Highly recommended!

By Liberty Bluebelle I had begun to despair of finding a 5-star-worthy story by an independent young author, but last night, after reading the first few lines of "Letters", I knew I had found one. Usually a story has a good plot, or sparkling characters, or an engaging writing style, or spiritual edification naturally worked into the storyline. Let's go over those one at a time.1. Good plotline? Check. The growth of Nicole as seen through her letters was well-planned out and complete. From complete disasters in the kitchen, to a lessening dislike for Kitchen duty, to Nicole's sudden fondness for salad, it was all well done.2. Sparkling characters? Check. Nicole's character as a scatter-brained sister came off beautifully. The brothers were characteristic boys, and the older sister I could easily recognize as being real, somewhere in the world. They were almost real, especially the "I" character of Nicole. Good job making her endearing!3. Engaging writing style? Check. Writing strictly in letter form where the reader does not get to read the other side of the letters can easily be over-written, but not so here. Nicole's letters felt real, and managed to clearly let us know what she was responding to in Erin's letter without re-writing it. Fun to read!4. Spiritual Edification--Naturally? Check. This was very well done as well. It flowed naturally in the letters in Nicole's jaunty voice, and was an encouraging reminder to seek the Lord's help in everything. This was the first story I've read in a while that I didn't mentally edit! The author gave me a copy to review,But I promise, that's all she asked me to do.It didn't have to be nice, it didn't have to be longIt only had to be true, only my thoughts should belong. So that is what this is, with opinions all my ownGo read the story, you'll find I'm not alone!
