With her irrepressible spirit, unusual beauty, and a large fortune, the stage is set for gossip. I read all sorts of Jane Austen spinoffs, and rarely walk away satisfied. Not so with Aston's novels. (The Second Mrs. Darcy was my favorite.) I keep checking to see if she has written anything new, and was delighted to find this short story. And how deliciously cruel to end it right at the climax! You've had your fun with us now, Ms. Aston. Now, knock it off and give us another novel!

Okay Valentine is a cute name and the cover is nice, but it is such a predicable story and ends so suddenly. I didn't find it a good read.

She is to make her come out at the London season and hopefully find a husband. She is an heiress and her unconventional behaviour means she stands out from the crowd. Unfortunately someone who knew her in Calcutta has also appeared in London and could cause trouble for her. This is a light-hearted Regency romantic short story which will appeal to readers of this author’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ continuations. It may also appeal to those readers who have read and loved the modern Mountjoy novels. The characters are well drawn and interesting and I would love to read more about Valentine herself and the nineteenth century Mountjoys.
