3 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Disappointed while pleased By D I eagerly anticipated the release of this cookbook. I am Italian American with maternal roots in Roma. I have enjoyed many superb meals while visiting there.The recipes are delicious and authentic.The stories are delightful as if we are at dinner with friends who are telling us of their travels to Rome and they give us recipes as a favor to take home.My disappointment is because part of my enjoyment of cookbooks comes from the photography, the feel of the paper, the closeup of the subject. With sincere apologies to the photographer, I feel cheated in this book. I have seen other wonderful works of hers. For cookbooks though, I have been spoiled for decades by the type of detailed photos that a Martha Stewart magazine or cookbook offers.I felt a disconnect in this book, too muted, as if I were behind a curtain looking in. I wanted to be closer. I don't know if it's about the camera, the angle, the paper but I feel left wanting more for my money.
