About the Author

Romy is an entrepreneur, author, devoted mother, and MBA wielding, Swiss-certified banking specialist. She grew up in a small mountain village in Switzerland, where the food was picked fresh, collected locally, and left entirely un-adulterated. Growing up, she dreamed of traveling the world and sought the financial freedom to do so. This brought her to the city, where she excelled in a high-power career that helped make her dreams a reality. But during all the hustle and bustle of city life, she noticed a marked decline in her health, mood, and overall wellbeing. This prompted her to re-explore her childhood roots, which provided natural answers and antidotes to her new found problems.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Very Informative and I'm Loving My Progress By Lucille This book was a super pleasant surprise. I've always been a classic example of what people call "skinny fat." I work out (mostly light cardio and some small weights) and I consider myself to be a pretty healthy eater. But I've always had a bit of a pooch around the front and sides. I've done crunches, low-fat dieting, etc., but it never really got rid of the doughy, puffiness around my midsection, even if I could tone up in other places. A friend gave me her copy of the book and told me to give it a read. I thought it had a lot of great tips that I didn't necessarily find intuitive. I've always been a super high veggie/low-fat eater, so some of the recipes in the book were not what I was used to making (definitely because of the higher fat content). But I seriously can say that since I've made the switch over the last week and a half I've noticed a difference. For one, I'm not as hungry and I don't crave sugar as much. But more importantly, when I wake up in the morning my stomach is NOTICEABLY FLATTER. I don't know if it's because I'm retaining less water, if I've actually lost some fat, or if I'm just less bloated. But I definitely feel better and my stomach is actually retaining some definition instead of remaining an amorphous blob. So I'm already really happy with the results and look forward to sticking to the general eating guidelines to increase my stomach definition.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A huge help! By Daniel I have several friends who have gotten into the "Raw Foods" diet who I think could benefit from this book. I definitely consider myself a healthy, conscientious eater. I stock up on veggies, quality protein, fats, etc. But I always noticed that if I went too heavy on the uncooked fruits and veggies, I'd pay for it later. People would often chock that up to the effects of "detoxing." But this book gives a great explanation for how, in fact, those kinds of foods, and the way I was eating them, just weren't mixing well with my body. And it gives awesome alternatives on how to get the nutrition I always seek, without having my stomach turned into knots in the process. You shouldn't have to suffer to be healthy (because suffering, not surprisingly, usually indicates that you're up to something that's making you not healthy). Anyhow, this book is a great resource if, despite your best efforts to eat all the right things, you find yourself feeling sick or bloated.

It’s not a glamorous topic, but I’m glad there’s something out there that addresses the whole slew of side effects that people get from going too heavy on the veggies without proper food preparation or dietary balance. I’m all about healthy, complex carbs—the more the better (or so I thought). I feel like cruciferous vegetables are some of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat. So I have a history of going all out. But I definitely have had a great deal of, well, bloat and “intestinal” distress as a result. Basically, I think I was maxing out on fiber. This book helped me identify the ways I could better cook/prep my good complex carbs, while getting more nutrition from healthy fats. I did the four-day fix, and I think the recommendations were reasonable (not a gimmicky lemon cayenne fast). And they absolutely helped. Some of my stomach puff went down after just a couple days and I felt less bloated, stuffed/pressured. I like the science/explanations behind the recommendations, too. They’re technical, but still accessible. I’m keeping my copy of the book around as a lender for friends.
