Sometimes moving forward means we have to look back By Rose Martz Just finished this book and have to say I was really surprised by how emotionally damaged women can look at a section of their past and come to the realization that they can move on. In the first story we meet Lexie James, she is a 30 something female who fell in lust with a married man. Of course he told Lexie that he and his wife aren't sleeping together, have nothing in common anymore and he wants to get a divorce. But even though Lexie is an educated and sexy, confident female she still falls for him. I won't put any spoilers in here, but it is both funny and tragic how she comes to realize that he lied and finds a secret way to get back at him. You will either love or hate Lexie but you will know that she really has moved forward and left the loser ex behind.Next we meet Zandra, she is taking a walk through Ross when she comes across a boy from high school who she has named number 7. As she takes us through her high school years we can identify with her deep seated need to be loved and to fit into a group of popular kids. Even though Zandra finds herself in this elite group, she knows that she needs to lose weight and get herself together. As we follow the choices she makes we want to yell at her to stop, think before she does something she will regret, but we also get to see her new and improved self and cheer for her at her new and stronger personality.Join Lexie and Zandra on a walk through their past, as they learn what it takes to get them into the next stage of their future!*ARC received from the author and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

By Liz Jessica Anya Blau captures the painful, embarrassing situations in which we women (and men, too!) sometimes find ourselves, and she does so with honesty, compassion, and candor that make each scene simultaneously gut-wrenching and hilarious. As in her three novels, the characters here are flawed, but also relatable -- at times (at least for this reader!) frighteningly familiar in their questionable choices and in the ways they seem to follow the inevitable path from bad to worse. And while Blau is indisputably great at coming up with engaging plots, she also flexes some serious literary muscle in these two stories, writing scenes with economy and emotional intensity. Good call, Shebooks!
