About the Author
Amanda Freitag is one of New York City’s most celebrated chefs. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, she has worked under Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Vong, Diane Forley at Verbena, Alain Passard at Paris’s famed restaurant Arpege, and Tom Valenti at ’Cesca. She worked as executive chef at Gusto and The Harrison before opening her first restaurant, Empire Diner, in 2013. Amanda has battled Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America, has a recurring role as a judge on the Food Network series Chopped, and stars with Ty Pennington on Food Network’s American Diner Revival. She lives in New York City.

I love this cookbook because it has a little bit of everything in it from how to make chicken stock to fresh pasta dough to hearty meals and lovely salads.......and of course yummy desserts. I love that there is a chapter titled "The Scary Stuff" but I think that "Low and Slow" is going to be my favorite!!! It's a great addition to any cooks collection with a photo of every recipe and the directions look super easy. I'm going to take a crack at the Lusty Lemony Chicken tonight!!!

By Tammy Wood I tend to read a cookbook all the way through before cooking out of it, but I broke my rule with this one. I'm glad I did! The recipes are not complicated, as I'm a decent home cook, but they are SOLID. I made the mustard vinaigrette one night. My husband told me tonight he would like to have salad tomorrow so we could have "that salad dressing again." The man has never asked me for a salad. I made the classic creamed spinach tonight. I've never made creamed spinach before and was somewhat daunted by the multiple steps, especially squeezing the water out of spinach. And I was nervous when I would up with just a few handfuls of spinach after the blanching and squeezing process. But put it all together, and it was just AMAZING. Husband deemed that it "needed to be put into the rotation." I love watching Amanda on Chopped, and I just love her first cookbook. I'm so happy for her!

Chef Freitag's personality shines through in her book. It's just as if you're sitting right there with her as she shares her recipes and tips.
