When Giselle McTavish left France as the wife of a Scottish laird, she never expected to be widowed two years later and left with a toddler to raise. Filled with animosity toward Highlander, Hugh Ferguson—the man she holds responsible for her husband’s drowning, and a man she must see every day because he, too, lives at Craiglocky Keep—she’s determined her son, the next laird, will be raised in Scotland, nonetheless. Her struggles to overcome loneliness and homesickness are compounded as it becomes more difficult to fight the warm feelings Hugh now stirs in her. Hugh has loved Giselle almost from the moment he laid eyes on the petite Frenchwoman. But as the wife, and then the widow of his dearest friend, he has refused to act on his feelings. He blames himself for his friend’s death. Guilt as well as the belief Giselle hates him, keeps Hugh’s lips firmly closed and his heart sealed. That all changes one providential Valentine’s Day when he risks everything by using Scottish folklore and legend to at last proclaims his love.

Review "Very well written with a touch of tenderness!"  ~N. Laverdure "...a full, thoughtful, touching, sweet story." ~ K. Westrope "She writes so fluidly that I find myself so immersed in the plot that I am 'what? Uh?! Nooo!!.. I want more!! when I do finish." ~ N. Patywich "A beautiful story of second loves & a wonderful short prelude to Collette Cameron's Highlander's Hope in the Castle Bride Series." ~ D. Foster  "Combine a lovely Highland romance & Ms. Cameron's writing style, what you get is a clever, amazing story." ~E. Evans

From the Author When I wrote Highlander's Hope, I ended up deleting an entire scene where Ewan tells Yvette about his mother and step-father's romance.    Theirs story niggled around in my head for a couple of years, and when I was asked to write a short story, I knew exactly whose story would hit the page.    Heart of a Highlander is a Scottish novelette you can easily read in one sitting. Full of tender romance, this sweet tale also included a great deal of folklore surrounding how the Scots celebrate Valentine's Day.

About the Author A bestselling, award-winning author, COLLETTE CAMERON pens Scottish and Regency historicals featuring rogues, rapscallions, rakes, and the intelligent, intrepid damsels who reform them.Blessed with three spectacular children, fantastic fans, and a compulsive, over-active, and witty Muse who won't stop whispering new romantic romps in her ear, she still lives in Oregon with her husband and five mini-dachshunds, though she dreams of living in Scotland part-time.Admitting to a quirky sense of humor, Collette enjoys inspiring quotes, adores castles and anything cobalt blue, and is a self-confessed Cadbury chocoholic. You'll always find dogs, birds, occasionally naughty humor, and a dash of inspiration in her sweet-to-spicy timeless romances.

Westrope I don't know how anyone can put such a full, thoughtful, touching, sweet story in to so few words, but Collette Cameron always manages to do so. This is the second novella I've read by this author, and as much as I loved "A Kiss For Miss Kingsley", I like this one even more. The way the story unfolds, supplying us with the backstory along the way, and adding to the charm of both the hero and the story by throwing in some Scottish folklore (which may or may not have been completely fabricated by said hero), is quite engaging and draws the reader in from the first paragraph. The little boy in the story supplies a sense of wonderment and charm as well.So much is conveyed is such a short span of time, and yet, there is a completely real and believable feel to the story. I could almost feel the cold and the snowflakes falling. I liked this one so much, I may have to read it again.

Fans of Highland romances will love this story of a widow getting a second chance at love with a man who thought his love for her would be forbidden. Ms. Cameron's characters are well-developed and the action is well-plotted. This warm story of second love is an easy, lovely read in one sitting.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Finding Love Again. By Netasha P. 5++ Stars for “Heart Of A Highlander” by Collette Cameron. I really love Collette's writing. She always has a 'start, middle and HEA' . She writes so fluidly that I find myself so immersed in the plot that I am 'what? Uh?! Nooo!!.. I want more!! when I do finish. I love how she weaves the plot and stays true to include characters and sub-characters throughout all her books. I know that when I pick up a new one there will be at least one old friend included to help guide me or just say hello to from a past book that makes them all feel connected to this new journey. In Heart of a Highlander we meet Ewan McTavish, the Viscount Sethwick, (Highlander's Hope (Castle Bride Series Book 2) as a young boy so filled with snips and snails that you want to hug him up and squish his cheeks). It is a short story of his widowed mother Giselle and his father's best friend Hugh realizing that life does go on and that they can finally show each other that love, especially on a Valentines Day in Scotland, is indeed full of magic and promise and just waiting for them. Again I just wish it was longer read.I would reccommend this to everyone that enjoys historical romance. No compensation recieved for my honest POV.
