The Barter System - Book 1 Hudson - Book 2 Pushing the Envelope - Book 3 Backstage - Book 4 Liberation - Book 5 Radiance - Book 6 She has things under control...for the most part. Tawny Ratliff is a loose cannon. She’s brash, unpredictable, and always ready to fight. She’s also the best friend a person could hope for, keeps an eye on the people she loves, and takes her desire to do good to the next level. Brilliant and devious, Tawny takes you behind the scenes of “The Barter System,” to a time when she and her best friend Riya were just kids trying to figure things out like everyone else. Her perspective is unusual, her language is uncouth, but she is never boring. Find out why this character in “The Barter System” and “Hudson” won the hearts of so many. Miss Tawny has no filter...and that's a good thing. Another great story from Always the Good Girl, Shayne McClendon. NOTE: This story contains explicit themes and language (including alcoholism, grief, and assault) and is intended for mature 18+ readers only. Do not read this novel if such content offends you. This is complete novella of 20,000 words and does not end in a cliffhanger.

You get lots and lots of hints of Tawny's past & present in the other TBS books (The Barter System and Hudson, books 1 & 2), but seeing things from HER side? There's more to this wild child than you'd think! Getting her 'real' perspective of things, along with lots of twists and turns from her history that are alluded to but never stated in the other books...wow. Just...wow. I was stunned speechless after finishing...and promptly turned back to page one to read it again.Once again, the author pulls you in...and there is no escape. She engages the reader, enthralling them with the way she weaves her words and leaving them both satisfied and wanting more. This book is a great way to dip your toes into the TBS world...or, if you're already a part of it, a great way to stay connected to more than just Tawny! (no spoilers here!)

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. She keeps leaving me wanting more!! By Yvonne Roller She keep leaving me wanting more!! I am continually amazed at Shayne's ability to create such wonderful characters. I have read The Barter System and Hudson and wanted more on Tawny! She delivered in a HUGE way!! Now all I can think of is when Tawny's full story will be out!

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Absolutely Amazing By JB Nicholson Wow I love Tawny's spirit and her ability to keep secrets. I love how Shayne intertwines her characters from her other books. Once again I've gotten a peak at the man Hollow. I want more of him. This book is awesome and definitely a must read.

Best Ebook PDF Online The Part-Time Vegetarian: Flexible Recipes to Go (Nearly) Meat-Free, by Nicola Graimes

The common link between vegetarians and part-time vegetarians (flexitarians) is that they like to base their meals on vegetables. Whether this is for health, economic or moral reasons (or a combination of all three), the fact is a flexitarian diet – one that is largely vegetarian but occasionally includes poultry, meat and seafood – is growing in popularity and is a long-term trend that cannot go ignored. Let’s face it the flexitarian or semi-vegetarian diet is the way to go: meat and fish are becoming prohibitively expensive; our current consumption cannot be sustained in years to come; and the health benefits of a vegetarian diet are well documented. But while the number of vegetarians is significant, a study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that nearly two out of three vegetarians occasionally like to meat, chicken or fish. The Part-Time Vegetarian Cookbook shows just how delicious, adaptable and varied this way of eating can be. Rather than taking centre stage, meat or fish are not the main focus of the recipes, which value the often under-used and under-valued vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, eggs and dairy foods. The recipes are not about taking something away, however, but adding a new dimension and consequently widening and extending the homecook’s repertoire of dishes. Organised by meal type, The Part-Time Vegetarian Cookbook features chapters on Breakfasts & Brunches, Small Bites (snacks, lunches and light meals), Weekday Suppers, Weekend Cooking, Food for Sharing (entertaining, special occasion, celebrations and al fresco) and Something Sweet. The recipes are all vegetarian, but can easily be adjusted to suit non-vegetarians.

This is one of my favorite foods, but I never made one before. I always bought them already made. Now I can make my own and enjoy a nice fat burrito again. My son is a majorly picky eater, but he always liked burritos. It took me almost two years and a school full of kids to get him to try the empanadas here. Love the book, and all the different recipes. The steps are very clear and explain everything I need to know. Some are grilled and others are baked. Can't wait to try them! Now I can show my friends what I've been talking about.

PDF Ebook Online Chemistry: A Novel (Textbook) - Volume 1, by R. Mark Matthews

The first of a two-volume textbook for college General Chemistry students, this book takes a "novel" approach on two fronts. It's written and formatted in a way that encourages it be read just like any other book, while also eschewing many of the traditional tropes of traditional chemistry textbooks. Figures, graphs and tables are embedded within the text itself, usually without labels or captions, in an attempt to keep the "narrative flow" going. Similarly, sample calculations are presented in a step-by-step fashion to mimic how an instructor would guide a student through a problem if he or she were doing it in person. This Kindle Edition also includes video content for supported Devices

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good for exercises and practice - not as much for learning the concepts By Jim On the plus side? It's significantly cheaper than any textbook you'll likely ever purchase. The downsides? Expect your professor to provide numerous corrections after the fact, and don't be surprised if you spend 45 minutes trying to re-work an answer only to realize there was an uncorrected error in the book. In class, Matthews is passionate about the topic and is excellent at conveying what nuances there are in Gen Chem. But the idea just isn't well-executed in book form.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. EASY to learn Chemistry By Margaret EASY to learn Chemistry. This novel-like format is broken into small size sections with review and practice questions after each section to ensure reader has understood concepts. Facts made so much sense and understanding built on learned concepts very naturally, seemingly effortlessly. After failing to understand chemistry through several standard textbooks, I finally know it thanks to Chemistry, A Novel (Textbook).

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Buy it because you have to By E Expect to look up information online, as some explanations are confusing. Particularly in the last chapters. Also expect to rework an answer 10 times only to realize there is an error in the answer key. I didn't pass because of this book, I passed because of Khan Academy.

When Giselle McTavish left France as the wife of a Scottish laird, she never expected to be widowed two years later and left with a toddler to raise. Filled with animosity toward Highlander, Hugh Ferguson—the man she holds responsible for her husband’s drowning, and a man she must see every day because he, too, lives at Craiglocky Keep—she’s determined her son, the next laird, will be raised in Scotland, nonetheless. Her struggles to overcome loneliness and homesickness are compounded as it becomes more difficult to fight the warm feelings Hugh now stirs in her. Hugh has loved Giselle almost from the moment he laid eyes on the petite Frenchwoman. But as the wife, and then the widow of his dearest friend, he has refused to act on his feelings. He blames himself for his friend’s death. Guilt as well as the belief Giselle hates him, keeps Hugh’s lips firmly closed and his heart sealed. That all changes one providential Valentine’s Day when he risks everything by using Scottish folklore and legend to at last proclaims his love.

Heart of a Highlander: A Scottish Short Story, by Collette Cameron

Review "Very well written with a touch of tenderness!"  ~N. Laverdure "...a full, thoughtful, touching, sweet story." ~ K. Westrope "She writes so fluidly that I find myself so immersed in the plot that I am 'what? Uh?! Nooo!!.. I want more!! when I do finish." ~ N. Patywich "A beautiful story of second loves & a wonderful short prelude to Collette Cameron's Highlander's Hope in the Castle Bride Series." ~ D. Foster  "Combine a lovely Highland romance & Ms. Cameron's writing style, what you get is a clever, amazing story." ~E. Evans

From the Author When I wrote Highlander's Hope, I ended up deleting an entire scene where Ewan tells Yvette about his mother and step-father's romance.    Theirs story niggled around in my head for a couple of years, and when I was asked to write a short story, I knew exactly whose story would hit the page.    Heart of a Highlander is a Scottish novelette you can easily read in one sitting. Full of tender romance, this sweet tale also included a great deal of folklore surrounding how the Scots celebrate Valentine's Day.

About the Author A bestselling, award-winning author, COLLETTE CAMERON pens Scottish and Regency historicals featuring rogues, rapscallions, rakes, and the intelligent, intrepid damsels who reform them.Blessed with three spectacular children, fantastic fans, and a compulsive, over-active, and witty Muse who won't stop whispering new romantic romps in her ear, she still lives in Oregon with her husband and five mini-dachshunds, though she dreams of living in Scotland part-time.Admitting to a quirky sense of humor, Collette enjoys inspiring quotes, adores castles and anything cobalt blue, and is a self-confessed Cadbury chocoholic. You'll always find dogs, birds, occasionally naughty humor, and a dash of inspiration in her sweet-to-spicy timeless romances.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Engaging short story. By K. Westrope I don't know how anyone can put such a full, thoughtful, touching, sweet story in to so few words, but Collette Cameron always manages to do so. This is the second novella I've read by this author, and as much as I loved "A Kiss For Miss Kingsley", I like this one even more. The way the story unfolds, supplying us with the backstory along the way, and adding to the charm of both the hero and the story by throwing in some Scottish folklore (which may or may not have been completely fabricated by said hero), is quite engaging and draws the reader in from the first paragraph. The little boy in the story supplies a sense of wonderment and charm as well.So much is conveyed is such a short span of time, and yet, there is a completely real and believable feel to the story. I could almost feel the cold and the snowflakes falling. I liked this one so much, I may have to read it again.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Lovely Read in One Sitting By Mary K. Fans of Highland romances will love this story of a widow getting a second chance at love with a man who thought his love for her would be forbidden. Ms. Cameron's characters are well-developed and the action is well-plotted. This warm story of second love is an easy, lovely read in one sitting.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Finding Love Again. By Netasha P. 5++ Stars for “Heart Of A Highlander” by Collette Cameron. I really love Collette's writing. She always has a 'start, middle and HEA' . She writes so fluidly that I find myself so immersed in the plot that I am 'what? Uh?! Nooo!!.. I want more!! when I do finish. I love how she weaves the plot and stays true to include characters and sub-characters throughout all her books. I know that when I pick up a new one there will be at least one old friend included to help guide me or just say hello to from a past book that makes them all feel connected to this new journey. In Heart of a Highlander we meet Ewan McTavish, the Viscount Sethwick, (Highlander's Hope (Castle Bride Series Book 2) as a young boy so filled with snips and snails that you want to hug him up and squish his cheeks). It is a short story of his widowed mother Giselle and his father's best friend Hugh realizing that life does go on and that they can finally show each other that love, especially on a Valentines Day in Scotland, is indeed full of magic and promise and just waiting for them. Again I just wish it was longer read.I would reccommend this to everyone that enjoys historical romance. No compensation recieved for my honest POV.

The Eurasian beaver was near extinction at the start of the twentieth century, hunted across Europe for its fur, meat and castoreum. But now the beaver is on the brink of a comeback, with wild beaver populations, licensed and unlicensed, emerging all over Britain.

As a keystone species, the beaver plays a vital role in the creation of sustainable wetland habitats through its damming activities, providing living opportunities for a broad spectrum of wildlife. Yet as proposals for reintroducing beavers are underway, re-establishing the beaver in Britain is still a controversial issue.

This book presents a case for our future coexistence with beavers by providing factual information on this species that has now passed from national memory, covering the biology, behaviour and ecology of the Eurasian beaver in a British context, from their early history in archaeology and folklore to their contemporary field signs in the wild. This book familiarises readers once again, after almost 400 years of its absence, with the Eurasian beaver, providing essential information on its requirements in our human dominated landscape.

This book is for those with a specific interest in beavers and their reintroduction, and for anyone with a general curiosity in natural history, ecology or animal behaviour. It can be used as a field guide to identify beaver field signs and observe beavers in the wild by wildlife surveyors or general land users, or as an introductory guide for anyone with an interest in beavers and how to recognise them.

The authors have been actively involved in the study of beaver ecology, behaviour and reintroduction for many years. They have a first-hand knowledge of beavers in captivity and in the wild in both Britain and a range of other European countries.

Review The authors provide an update on their experiences direct from the field, the quarantine area and the veterinary table. This fascinating book promotes a future co-existence with beavers in Britain by providing factual information on their biology, behaviour and the habitats they help to generate. This remarkable, unassuming animal has the capacity to help renaturalise our rivers, re-create areas of wetland, increase biodiversity, provide natural flood defence, protect soils and filter and purify our water. -- Nick Mott Staffordshire Wildlife This admirable little book tells you all you are ever likely to want to know about the beaver. It is illustrated with many photos of the animal and its habitat, with maps showing its distribution and tables of the plants it eats and the signs it leaves. Despite the text being only 44 pages long, the authors cover everything you might want to know about these fascinating rodents. Beavers are being re-introduced to Scotland and Devon but it is very unlikely that they will find their way to Derbyshire. So you will have to travel if you want to see them for yourself. My only encounter with beavers was on holiday in Estonia. Kath and I stopped in Soomaa National Park and wandered about in the forests finding both felled trees and huge beaver lodges. One evening while walking by a stream, we were startled by the amazingly loud 'slap' of a beaver's tail close to us. This loud noise warns the animal's family of danger. It's a remarkable and unmistakeable sound which certainly scared the life out of us! A ripple running down the stream was the closest we came to seeing one. One thing I had never realised was that Beverley in Yorkshire gets its name from the beaver. And another; that beavers don't eat coniferous trees though they sometimes fell them to use as lodge-building material. -- Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Derbyshire Wildlife Trust

36 of 39 people found the following review helpful. funny illustrations, interviews By Char I so very badly want to give this book five stars. It's the closest any book could ever come to explaining Mexican taco culture to an outsider, in all its informal, hyper-local, insanely delicious diversity and variety. I've learned about tacos I never heard about even when I lived there, and there are interviews, quotes, and even social media posts from taco fanatics and chefs that bring deep dimension to the taco. It's loaded with cartoons, maps, funny illustrations, interviews, and other errata that's just delightful. Representative recipes are included, too. It's a fond, rich book-length love letter to a food and its surrounding culture that I love too, and it's inspired me to go on a weeklong taco binge of epic proportions. I wouldn't even necessarily call it a cookbook, as most of its running length is essays, profiles, and description rather than recipes. However, there are two major demerits.- The book is cheap. Dull, rough stock, an odd, floppy cover, and construction that doesn't inspire confidence. It's a damned shame that this didn't come with a hard cover and wasn't printed on the glossy stock that its vibrant colors, cartoons, and photography demand. This is the sort of paper novels and so on are printed on - and not the nice first-run hardcovers, but more like that of a paperback. This is a book that will never be used in the kitchen. because a grease splot would soak through the next five pages.- The recipes are hit or miss: Many of the included recipes skip steps, assume familiarity with Mexican techniques, and vaguely mention techniques that many Americans will not know. I've been cooking this stuff for years, but a newbie Mexican chef would be up a creek with many of the recipes. This book has so much content that's not recipes that this matters less than it might in a book that was primarily a cookbook, but it's still disappointing. That said, the book is still worth every penny; it's a true delight, to be savored like a novel. It's just that it'd be worth every penny of $5-7 more too, if that'd buy paper stock worth a damn and a hard cover. I can overlook the recipes, but the construction lops off a star. Also: I want the Tacografia map as a poster-size print to frame on my kitchen wall.

It is a glorious, colorful, celebratory explosion of food, culture, history, recipes, lore, images, and much more. It is rich with insightful information. It is loaded with great recipes: I have a truly huge cookbook collection with a strong core on Mexican food. I am also a taco addict, having been raised in LA's Lincoln Heights and then SF's Mission District. I have a number of good books addressing tacos (Rick Bayless and Tacolicious come to mind...), but this book jumped way to the top: the section on birria alone was my reason to buy it, with excellent background on and recipes/methods for this. The classic pork al pastor is quite excellent...but since we don't eat pork, the reference to using other meats/poultry/fish with this same method was a welcome revelation. There is so much excellent content on sauces, salsas, taco-relatives including flautas/taquitos, enchiladas, quesadillas, tortillas and more....touching on all without ever losing the taco focus...it is awesome.BUT, PLEASE NOTE: this is a very "non-linear" book in terms of organization, and how many recipes cross-reference to others, and with a wildly exuberant graphic presentation and layout....it is fun, colorful, encourages exploration, packed with tidbits, essays, images and more...so, IF you need a very traditonal, logical, methodical, exacting layout , THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU! I am saying this to warn folks in advance so they don't trash the authors with low-ratings for the author's wonderfully creative and fun approach to this iconic street food. You may have to dig around a bit to get into your subject/recipe of interest: the book is designed to engage you that way, and it is way cool! It effectively uses graphics, pop-up text inserts, photos etc to convey info. It is fun, but delivers a load of valuable info.I have only one (rather huge) criticism: while I much aporeciate the aesthetic of the rather rustic page stock, the cover, as another reviewer noted, is inexusably flimsy and that extends to the binding as well. The book invites heavy use but with heavy use it is likely it will fall apart and need a huge rubberband to hold together: this is VERY disappointing considering the usual high-quality of Phaidon publications, even in softcover. (Yo...author, Phaidon...what gives with this?)Because the content is exceptional, I give it 5 stars despite this flaw. That is my story and I'm sticking to it. Oh, if you need a more tame and rather less thoroughly insightful bunch of taco recipes with a traditional layout, try Tacolicious or Rick Bayless...or just Google up some recipes.. Tacopedia is way more than recipes, but those it provides are excellent, especially for cooks comfortable in the kitchen or adventurous beginners.

But this sprawling hot mess of a book is, so far, a very enjoyable read. Wish they had used more Mexican Spanish terms for various items like equipment and ingredients. In spite of my criticisms, those involved (writer, editor, translator, etc.) have done a great job on what must have been a massive project.

The gore is mostly hinted at rather than fully described but the story is still gruesome enough. What if? What if you had a huge debt you had no way of getting out from under? What if you were a roller coaster addict? What if you were the ultimate gambler? You might think going on The Ride was for you.And what about the millions of watchers and bettors? Will the world actually come to something like this?Good short story but not as fulfilling as Davis's novel The Fort. But then it's apples and oranges.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. My heart is still in my throat from the suspense! By Leslie Lee Sanders Nice and short, very well-written, full of suspense, and great resolution. This is a perfect thriller for someone with less than twenty minutes to enjoy a read. Great way of making the thrill of riding a roller coaster even more scary. And even though many stories exist about what we'd do and how far we'd go for entertainment (e.g. The Hunger Games, Running Man, etc.), I think the use of a thrill ride is original in this situation. I'd definitely recommend this story. A must-read!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A fun and quick read. Well worth a dollar! By Michael Alan Owen First off I want to say that I appreciated Aric bluntly stating that this was a short story. He makes it very clear what the reader will be paying for right from the beginning. I will save giving a description of the book in this review since that is pretty well covered on Aric's end. This is a very fun short story that moves at a quick pace. Despite the length, Aric does a good job of giving you enough background on the protagonist to hope for his potential success on the ride. There are not too many characters in this story but he did a good job of fleshing out the ones that are in it.He also does a good job of "building the world" so to speak. The reader is not just thrown in blind by any means. He has a good back story for how "the ride" came to be and he even talks about some of its unfortunate previous volunteers. It is definitely fleshed out enough to seem plausible. Finally, Aric does a good job of painting a picture with his words without going overboard to the point of it seeming like filler. He describes the scenes and emotions of the characters in a way that really allows the reader to see and feel everything that is going on.While it is short (which should be obvious) it is certainly worth the price and I hope to see more short stories from Aric (and all other authors) in the future. Buy it!

A Quick Taste Leaves You Wanting More By Catriona Mairi Holy Rage, a short story from Oliver Potzsch, author of The Hangman's Daughter series, is a quick read in the same vein as the series. Drawing from medieval German history, lore, art, and religion, it deals with the era's common practice of selling the "relics" of saints as miraculous totems for healing. The relics are a focus for the faith of the individual--but what happens when they lead instead to murder? This story will leave you dying to read more of Oliver Potzsch's meticulously detailed work!

I have enjoyed all of Potzsch books and Holy Rage was not a disappointment. It held my interest to the end and was not predictable I am looking forward to Oliver Potzsh’s next book

By Amazon Customer I am used to reading those really long Poetzsch stories of Bavarian mysteries - this one was blessedly short and sweet! Love it! Someone needs to pick up on this character and make a series out of this! Cheers! Keep'em coming, Herr Poetzsch!
