This is the second major work by this author (The First Gene: The Birth of Programming, Messaging and Formal Control) and it addresses the most fundamental questions remaining for life origin research: How did molecular evolution generate metabolic recipe and instructions using a representational symbol system? How did prebiotic nature set all of the many configurable switch-settings to integrate so many interdependent circuits? How did inanimate nature sequence nucleotides to spell instructions to the ribosomes on how to sequence amino acids into correctly folding protein molecular machines? How did nature then code these symbol-system instructions into Hamming block codes, to reduce noise pollution in the Shannon channel? What programmed the error-detection and error-correcting software that keeps life from quickly deteriorating into non-life from so many deleterious mutations? In short, which of the four known forces of physics organized and prescribed life into existence? Was it gravity? Was it the strong or weak nuclear force? Was it the electromagnetic force? How could any combination of these natural forces and force fields program decision nodes to prescribe future utility? Why and how would a prebiotic environment value, desire or seek to generate utility? Can chance and/or necessity (law) program or prescribe sophisticated biofunction? The most plaguing problem of life origin science remains: What programmed, in a prebiotic environment, the Primordial Prescription and Processing of such sophisticated, integrated biofunction? That is the subject of this book.

Cybernetics disproves evolutionism By Darbesio Eugenio The belief that biological organization, from cells to organisms, in a crescendo of functional complexity, might be due to unguided natural forces only is nonsense. Just the formation of a single initial cell implies what the author of this book calls "primordial prescription". Some of many scientific points in the book are:The most fundamental principle of science is the F>P principle (formalism is in causation anterior to physicality). (By "formalism" he means abstract, conceptual, non physical unconstrained choice contingent controls.)Life origin is about initial prescription and its processing (P & Po).Only P & Po could have generated the formal organization, the hierarchy of functions, the highly integrated services and strictly coordinate tasks necessary to life.Life is highly controlled, regulated and computational.Biological systems are fundamentally cybernetic (cybernetics is the study of control and regulation).Life is genomically and epigenomically controlled and regulated.Organization must never be confused with spontaneous self-ordering in nature.Inanimate nature is blind to formalisms.Self-organization is self-contradictory concept.Nothing can self-organize itself into existence from non existence. An effect, such organization, cannot be causa sui.Genomes consist of programmed instructions and controls.Molecules cannot organize themselves into long-term sophisticated architectural systems and machines. The second law of statistical thermodynamics states a tendency towards disorganization that precluded sustained primordial spontaneous self-organization.Only formalism, not physicodynamics is capable of generating true organization....I suggest reading this scientific book to whoever wants to really understand what biological complexity entails, explained with the jargon of modern science, engineering and technology. It is a reading that destroys once and for all the errors and illusions of biological evolutionism.

Lopez Life is more complex than we could have ever imagined and certainly far more complex that Darwin ever imagined. The scientific literature on this topic is replete with facile oversimplifications of what we are actually observing and no other topic deserves our closest attention.Abel is extremely meticulous in presenting for us the real difficulty that surrounds the origin of life. "Life...," he tells us, "is not about information!" "Life origin is about initial Prescription, and about the Processing of that initial prescription."Abel convincingly demonstrates that only this primordial prescription and its initial processing could have "generated the first formal organization, sophisticated function, and the first non-trivial useful work."Abel goes into what prescription entails and how it relates to the origin of life from different angles. He argues that "[l]ife is fundamentally cybernetic" and, therefore, "life-origin science must seek to explain how the first primordial cell (the effect) was caused (programmed and processed into existence)."Abel is devastatingly original and his work will surely shake many esteemed dogmas. There is no doubt some hesitance, but perhaps even more resistance to a forthcoming paradigm shift, not only in origin of life research but also in the biology departments with respect to the origin of life and its diversification. This book is a must read for scientists interested in fresh and robust ideas. It is certainly not for those who submissively nod to the popular theories of the scientific establishment, or those who stubbornly grip the carcasses of long dead theories in the hope that their warmth will restore them back to life.

By Felipe Aizpún The author of "The First Gene" offers us again an illuminating reflection on the problems and challenges that must be addressed when presenting an explanatory proposal on the origins of life in our Universe. To understand the emergence of life and to understand the successive appearance of increasingly complex and sophisticated living forms, it is first necessary to fully understand what life is, and what are the features and characteristics of living forms, something that must be accounted for in terms of causality.David Abel presents a thoroughly and comprehensive approach to this issue. On page 191 the author proposes a summary of the minimum biological functions that need to be explained in terms of causation and concludes convincingly that all life processes are ultimately cybernetic product of Choice Determinism, not the effect of random or necessary events. All processes are oriented towards the aim of pursuing survival (metabolism and homeostatic balance) as well as continuity in being through reproduction. These processes are governed by formalisms that prescribe biological events through prescription and processing of body functions. As the author rightly states, explaining the emergence of life must go beyond the mere recognition of the existence of informational resources in biology.Abel says: “The real issue is how current Prescription and Its Processing arose spontaneously out of chance and necessity sufficient to organize and bring life into such tightly regulated existence.”A must read for anyone interested in a critical analysis of current naturalistic models of the genesis of life in an inanimate world.
