About the Author

Eric Miller is the owner and winemaker at Chaddsford Winery in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. A lifelong oenophile, Miller learned his craft in France’s prestigious Burgundy region and apprenticed at his family’s Hudson Valley winery before hand-selecting his own terroir in southeastern Pennsylvania, where he founded Chaddsford Winery in 1982. His wines have been called “enchanting” and “perfect” by Gourmet, and have been featured in Food & Wine, The New York Times, and Philadelphia magazine. Eric has also been a leader in the development of premium viticulture in his home region, both as a board member of the Pennsylvania Commodities Council and past president and long time board member of the Pennsylvania Association of Winegrowers.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Superb Photographs By Mark Stanley I recently published Creating World Class Red Wine on Amazon. It is kind of a top-down study of how the finest wines in the world are actually made, and how those grapes are grown--a hands on winemaking book.I read this book, thinking it might be similar, but it's not. It is really a salute to contemporary winemaking and winemakers around the globe. The information is general, and I found the interviews mildly interesting, but must admit that at my level I didn't learn much. I am always interested in what world class winemakers have to say.Except for a couple out-of-focus images (that cool amphora-shaped concrete fermenter) the photography is gorgeous. Vintner's Apprentice is a nice coffee table book.

4 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A broad and excellent introduction By Nick Stengel An excellent introduction to the problems and decision points of grape growers and winemakers, intended for general and professional wine lovers alike. It doesn't answer a lot of the questions in any great depth, but the breadth of the book is astounding. It puts the whole process in great perspective and it shows me where I need to concentrate my studies.

It would be a fabulous resource for someone interested in starting a career in the wine business, sommeliers seeking more info on wine production, or anyone looking for more knowledge on wine. Highly recommended.
