About the Author Lucy Maud Montgomery OBE (November 30, 1874 – April 24, 1942), publicly known as L. M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning in 1908 with Anne of Green Gables. Anne of Green Gables was an immediate success. The central character, Anne, an orphaned girl, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following. The first novel was followed by a series of sequels with Anne as the central character. Montgomery went on to publish 20 novels as well as 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays. Most of the novels were set in Prince Edward Island, and locations within Canada's smallest province became literary landmarks and popular tourist sites—namely Green Gables farm, the genesis of Prince Edward Island National Park. She was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1935. (There were no Canadian orders, decorations or medals for civilians until the 1970s.) Montgomery's work, diaries and letters have been read and studied by scholars and readers worldwide.

If you enjoy these stories you will certainly enjoy the Anne of Green Gables series. You should also check out her other short story collections and the Chronicles of Avonlea!

I used to have a paperback copy of some of her short stories that I completely wore to pieces. Since her work is now in the public domain, I would highly suggest you just download the free versions (rather than let someone else repackage her work and profit off of her legacy). Her stories are quick and the language is delightfully stilted, but the endings are happily-ever-after and oh-so-welcome in today's world. Go ahead and indulge. :)

I mean the lovers eventually come together and everyone lives happily ever after By ricardo Montgomery writes in a very sentimental, old fashioned fairy tale style. By fairy tale, I mean the lovers eventually come together and everyone lives happily ever after. Despite the clear efforts to continually tug at your heartstrings, one can't help getting the occasional lump in the throat. One of her short stories, for example, is like a condensed version of Oliver Twist. All said and done, Montgomery's short stories are easy to read at one sitting and make pleasant bedside reading. Ricardo Silverburn, children's author.
