Several of the tales in this collection were previously published to critical acclaim or have been shortlisted in major competitions such as the Yeovil Prize, where Kate was twice winner of the Western Gazette award for best local author. Her first novel, Red Rock, a Cli-Fi adventure for young adults, was published in 2013 by Curious Fox. Kate and her family live in south-west England, near the coast and when she is not writing she takes to the sea in her kayak, or can be found wandering the remoter stretches of the South West Coast Path.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Mega-Vitamin Doses for Tired Brains! By Richard Sutton Short stories in the speculative genres, seem to fulfill a need I have for teasing my brain. These Scribblings, more than any such collection I've read lately, do just that. I've spent a bit of time in waiting rooms lately, and needed something to help defray the stress. These stories, all dealing in some way with physical changes to climate and our environment, engaged me completely in small doses -- perfect for the fragmented time I had to read them. All were compelling, but a few of them were disturbing or deeply affecting. If you enjoy reading quirky tales that force your sleepy brain to wake up and pay attention, these will be just the medicine you need. I find that several have remained active in my imagination many days after turning the page, which is a testament not only to the author's writing skill, but also to the variety of deep and complex ideas she works from. I'll be anxious for her next book.
