Oddný Eir is an Icelandic writer. She studied philosophy and languages in Budapest and Paris, and before she started publishing, she curated exhibitions in Brooklyn and Reykjavík. She has published one book of poetry and four novels, which all explore the form of autobiography and alchemy, and play with the marginal and symbolic in literature.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Nice Dessert After Veritas By Roger F, Shepherd Lashner Fans get an insight into Victor Carl's teen years in this short story. I was amazed at how similar it was to mine, even to the extent of the fight over the girl friend. The only difference was my step-father never came to my rescue.Victor joined the "Sell your soul" club about the same age as all of us "fools for love" but he didn't quite stay in the ring long enough for the full fleecing and beating that most of us get. The "girl of your dreams" can become your worst nightmare and that strawberry taste can turn into a raspberry when your summons arrives. Community property becomes Community Poverty for him while all the property goes to Dream Girl.Lashner's plot is simple. Victor wants to mitigate his clients potential life sentence for felony murder because his only part in the crime was driver of the get away car. The problem is his client refuses to reveal the shooter.Victor meets a beautiful woman in his usual hangout bar. She. turns out to be a lawyer in a prestigious firm. Her goal is to hook Victor an make sure he convinces his client not to accept a plea from the DA and to not reveal his partner in the crime. After some tantalizing encounters Victor begins to realize he is being played and the firm is trying to protect one of their clients who has an interest in Victor's case.Will Victor succumb to the "girl of his dreams" the girl with kisses that taste like strawberries? Or will he follow up on every lead he has to find the shooter so that his client can get a reduced sentence and his child can get a life saving operation?This is a very well written short story. Don't miss it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Welcome Home Victor Carl By Kevin M. Smith Bill latest story returns us to before Hostile Witness. Victor is amazing once more and we get more background on his childhood/development in this entry. Victor is not aided by the subtle and unforgettable sidekicks Bill is notorious for but, Victor once again is caught between whats right and whats best for him. A tasty appetizer but not the full course I've been longing for.I did my best to draw this novella out as long as I could since Victor will not return until next August. In the meantime, I look forward to the Barkeep in February and am thrilled to see Bill knocking them out of the park once more. too many years without my favorite author.

By Unicent William Lashner has a unique and fun writing style. Even though I generally don't trust a guy with two first names, I would let Victor Carl buy me a drink! He is a wonderful protagonist. I can't wait until The bagman is released! Write on William!

BUT all of them refer to a baking dish with no sizes listed. Only the muffins and cupcakes say the type of pan and some of the bread recipes. This is a big drawback! No one wants an overflow or a skimpy product. Pies and cakes list no size either. Also the pictures download at the end may have helped, but its for a healthy body, not pictures of the recipes.

From the tools you need to basic storage, this book tells you what the beginning baker needs to know. With a wide variety of recipes, this book will ensure that you and your family will never get bored. Easy to follow and the linked table of contents makes it easy to find all of your favorite recipes. This book has a little something for everyone, making it a great resource when hosting a party. I'm very excited to try out all of these recipes.

By Mana G Rather than just a few recipes thrown together into a book, Jamie Stewart has provided yet another guide to getting crafty in the kitchen. There are detailed instructions throughout the cookbook, especially in the front section. As usual, there is quite the optimistic tone throughout this book, as though it was a friend talking you through each recipe.When I first looked at this I imagined it to be 'baking' in the sense of yeast and other bread/sweet staples. It was a pleasant surprise to see other foods to make in the oven- the kind that you prep, throw in, then watch your favorite show while it's baking. So while there's 'Chocolate Banana bread' (yummy!) there's also foods such as an 'easy baked ham omelet'. It's not something I would normally think of, but now that I know about it I've found it to be extremely useful, especially when making food for a small group of people.All in all, this is well formatted and didn't cut corners, so I say; get it! It's certainly useful to have around.

The author does a great job of equipping the reader with all that was know to that time, and leaving the reader to ponder if he could have done any better, given what they knew then. Now consider the unsolved problems we face at the dawn of this new century. Given what we know now, how likely it it that our best guesses are accurate?

Patino I’ve enjoyed Jeff Alworth’s writing ever since I discovered “Beer Tasting Quick Reference Guide” and his Beervana blog. His writing is always elegant and eloquent. “Cider Made Simple” came on the heels of Alworth’s massive “Beer Bible.” The latter is a great resource book while “Cider” is more of a straight read through.Alworth begins with cider basics, breaking down the qualities that make a good cider, going through apple varieties and cider making at a glance. He goes on to the history and how the drink is made in the largest cider-producing regions: English, France and Spain. For the book, he traveled to all three countries and relates some fascinating stories about his tours, interviews and interactions with orchardists, ciderists and restauranters serving the ciders. Living in the U.S., I most related to and enjoyed the section on the American cider scene—its current state and predictions for the future.One caveat: this is not a book on how to make your own cider. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and educational read.

This is a book about the appreciation and understanding of cider rather than an instruction manual on how to make it. Alworth covers the basics and then describes the character and production of the major cider styles: English, French, Spanish, American and the ice ciders of Quebec. He travels to each major area and visits with renowned cider makers, highlighting what makes each style stand out and giving a good overview of its culture and production. The book is concise, yet well written and informative. It is an excellent choice for opening the world of cider.

More than fifty years of new archeological discoveries and theories had elapsed.Nevertheless it stands, undiminished, as magnificent introduction to Archeology and the Worlds of the Past: Egypt, Sumeria, Greece and Yucatan.Mr. Ceram (pen name of the author) writes passionately about his subject.The reader starts a discovery travel going along with amazing characters: Schliemann in his search of Troy; with Champollion in search of the key for reading Egyptian hieroglyphs; with Carter and Howard for the unearthing of Tutankhamen's tomb. The list continues jumping from one era to other; from one continent to a different and distant one. They constitute a heterogeneous bunch united by a burning desire for knowledge, wild imagination and undaunted persistence to make their dreams real.I first read this work when I was seventeen and discovering Europe. It helped me a lot to understand and appreciate the archeological treasures of European museums and sites.It also instilled in me an unstoppable desire to "be there". In my adult years, I was fortunate to visit some of those places and always before starting a journey I went back to reread "Gods, Tombs and Scholars".One more feature: at the end of the book you will find useful chronologies, maps and genealogic charts, which will aid the reader to visualize easily the events described.This is a book to enjoy and start a romance with the origins of our culture.Reviewed by Max Yofre.
