Some sweet recipes By A customer The Lazy Cook 2: Quick and Easy Sweet Treats is a cookbook with European flair, so you'll find recipes written using British terms, but the author neatly explained what the British ingredients meant. The author Susie Kelly has put a lot of thought in her cookbook as she does include information about diet (I loved her approach!); whether the recipe was vegan or used raw eggs. Overall, she has written a very nice cookbook. The only reason for a 4 star rating is I prefer the standard recipe format where the ingredients list is given and then the recipe directions follow. Her cookbook is written in a conversational style making her cookbook friendly and approachable. As a cook though I like to read standardized recipes. Some of the recipes you'll find include:Eton messFromage blancCrumbles (In the US we call this Fruit Crisp I suspect)Eve's PuddingChocolate peanut butter fudgeScottish tabletSinging hinnySponge flanNote: The recipe titles are written as found in her cookbook.Recommend.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Susie Kelly has an easy laid back style By Big Daddy Susie Kelly has an easy laid back style, which I find very pleasant reading. She has engaged in cooking for her family in Kenya, in France, and elsewhere and apparently has settled down in jolly old England. Her descriptions and commentary are delicious, and I enjoy just browsing the book. If she has written a personal or family biography, I would be interested in reading that, too. The slight inconvenience in converting her remarks and recipes to American English adds to the charm of the book.I am planning to buy a few extra copies for my daughters. And, don't overlook her Book 1, which has more of the same charm. It is almost supper time and I am getting hungry!

By Susan Keefe Susie Kelly has always been one of my favourite author’s and so when she wrote her first cook book The Lazy Cook (Book One): Quick And Easy Meatless Meals I could not wait to read it. Since then I have tried and enjoyed many of the recipes it contains. Therefore, when I saw its sequel The Lazy Cook (Book 2): Quick and Easy Sweet Treats I couldn’t wait to download it. This book is a must for everyone who loves deserts. I enjoy cooking and am quite happy to slave over a stove for a long time, if necessary to make a special desert, however, I could not believe how many quick and easy deserts there are. Inside this amazing book you will find pages of recipes, some using only a couple of ingredients and many which can be made a day or so in advance.The classic Eaton Mess which can be made in moments, light and tempting deserts which can be whipped up in minutes and others like the evil Malakoff which look incredible, but are really quite simple and quick to prepare. Included is also a wonderful ice-cream recipe which has variations to suit any taste. To complete this gem of a book, the author has also included hot deserts, sweets, baking recipes and even some delicious drinks. I for one am looking forward to experimenting with these tempting recipes at every opportunity I get.

By Robert Atkinson Industries which run the world provided us with countless benefits, but also burdened us with many serious, unwanted, unaffordable problems. One of the devastating effects has always been unwanted pollution, of many types, in many forms, with devastating consequences. The science of pollution (and other side effects) develops debates, while profiteers mandate their own side alone. This book presents very promising alternative solutions to complex pollution problems and might save us from economic collapse. The less known debate of climate change is discussed. An overriding issue is how industries craftily engineer issues to generate malicious profiteering markets, (essentially through complex, misleading proxies). The related points made in this book are supported with many references and web links. Let the reader consider the opposing positions and the intrigue of human greed at play. Let the reader consider the effects of their own choices in life. Come to a much wider understanding of the confusing issues which could have simpler remedies, (solutions with better rationales).Choice of one's own actions inevitably blow back upon self. Our courage to face this, promises practical and heartfelt rewards. Learn about a variety of alternatives to corporate domination and profiteering. Free industrial energy and free personal energy sources are courageously reviewed with surprising examples. Love comes in all shapes and sizes...a lesson to be learned By SEB Lance is a hard-working, no game playing, nice guy who just happens to be HOT as a Texas summer...he works on an oil rig by day and parties hard on the weekend with his buds when he is not doing some fancy trick riding on his motorcycle. Unlike a lot of men, he is not interested in "pretty on the outside-shallow on the inside" Barbie-doll types, but would rather have a sweet, soft all-woman girl with curves for days.Candace grew up in a home with an abusive mother...a "mother" who lives to sabotage any effort to help her daughter be more comfortable in her own skin by making high calorie, tempting but unhealthy meals and then taunting her when she isn't allowed to eat what she wants...it was cruel, hateful and the reason so many young women have deadly eating disorders.When Lance and Candance meet unexpectedly after she faces another self-esteem crushing disappointment, it was an exciting and very sweet beginning for both of them.I love the intensity and "realness" that comes with every one of these short but satisfying novellas that Camaron writes...they make me "feel all the feels" and bring to light issues that impact many people (male and female) in their everyday life. At quick glance, the eye focuses on the dark cloud to the right and the oil rig and it's very easy to allow the eye to continue it's search for something more appealing. The synopsis for this reads pretty vague as well. If I weren't already investing in the series, it would be a hard sell to get me to pick this one up.Looking Deeper:Written in a first person, alternating POV, clearly defined at the head of each chapter. Easy to follow along with.Lance is a Roughneck, working on an oil rig with Maverick and Heath (see previous books). In his spare time, he performs tricks at competition level on his motorcycle. He readily admits to being an adrenaline junkie, thus his nickname "Rush". Candace is a curvaceous pharmacist with some self-confidence issues. Raised to believe that her eating habits were disgusting and that she was fat plays a pretty big part in that. She's learned that most people over-look her and when they do acknowledge her, it's because they want something from her. She's smart, sassy and a little sad. He's wild, sexy and a little bit bad. Together they could interlock their halves into the most perfectly balanced whole, if only they'd learn to accept the balance.In the end, I feel that we had the chance to get to know Lance better than Ace. Maybe because he was part of the Roughneck trio all along. I loved his dialogue and interaction, but found her hesitation and reservations to be somewhat annoying after it's continuance months later. I'd expected a little more substance to the plot. It felt thin and unusually empty. I'd hoped for it to take a twist or two regarding Wade and her job, but that was even too much to hope for. This novella was just too short to create a rich plot. Worse, it's written so smooth, it creates a blink-and-you-miss-it effect. The characters' chemistry never had a chance to shine through and prove itself before it was over, leaving the conclusion to seem sort of out-of-the-blue and unbelievable. At least, that's how I felt about it. I think it would have thoroughly benefited from another 40 pages or so. I am truly saddened to have to score this one so low after enjoying the first two so much more. The manner in which this is done (increments of 9 years) allows the reader to witness her growth in those years.I liked it because the author illustrates that it is possible to be stronger and braver as a result of our past.Highly recommended.

The original novel by Lewis Carroll is terrific, of course, but being from America, and living in the modern era, there were a few aspects of his stories that were lost in translation, so to speak.Chris Pavesic’s Wonderland is set in the U.S. and references modern events. You will see all of the characters that you know and love from Carroll’s work, but they are in relatable forms for those of us “across the pond.” For example, the Tea Party takes place at a sorority house during pledge week. The dormouse is a pledge from a near-by fraternity who has overindulged in alcohol. One of his “brothers” has used a Sharpie marker to draw a mouse nose and whiskers on his face. Can I imagine this happening in modern-day America? Unfortunately yes.This is not a book for very young children (I would say teen to adult.) It touches on issues of child abuse, child neglect, bullying, peer pressure, and persecution of people due to race/gender issues. Yet the overall message is positive and life affirming. Wonderland is a book about the beauty and the complexity inherent in the human condition. It is about fate, love, friendship, and the power of the human spirit to rise above injustice. It is about recognizing how wonderful and miraculous it is that we are alive.The writing is beautiful, the characters are complex and thoroughly developed and the story is fascinating. All of it together creates a world you don't want to leave when the book ends. I am so glad I discovered this author and I cannot wait for her next book.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Great Idea, but Needs Work By mdmzolta The concept of healthy, easy microwave mug recipes is great! This book is ambitious, in that it provides vegetarian and meat recipes for all three meals of the day, as well as snack and dessert recipes. However, it would benefit greatly from some careful editing. A number of the recipes appear to be missing items in their ingredient lists, and/or their directions are unclear or confusing. There are errors, such as the addition of ham in one of the vegetarian recipes. While some recipes are simple enough for non-cooks to try, some require ingredients that many non-cooks do not ordinarily stock, or require too much prep for a mug meal. That said, I found many of the recipes interesting, and some simple and appetizing enough even for the super-busy or the "I-Hate-to-Cook" reader . The Dessert section has some particularly appetizing entries, but the same caveats apply. I would love to see an expanded and much more carefully edited edition of this book. In any case, this book is certainly worth the price.

So I never skip this part. I am kind of bored with my current recipes so I have been looking for something new. I like these new recipes as they are prepared using healthy ingredients and also easy to cook during the busy mornings. I also liked the mug cakes very much since they are delicious, easy to make and low in carbs. I have started making a special mug cake everyday for myself in the evenings after a busy day.

They are easy and quick to prepare, I feel more flexible with these recipes as I can prepare snack for my child or just a quick breakfast or dinner. Lovely to have them as an option. Worth trying once in awhile.
