I've cooked/baked her Thai, Vietnamese, southern cakes and pies recipes for years. Southern Soups and Stews doesn't disappoint. We've cooked Red Beans and Rice, Caldo Gallego, Shrimp Etouffee from the book so far... and looking forward to the Chicken and Dumplings and Avocado Soup, and many more soon. I love the recipe origin stories that accompany the recipes.

Soups don't typically get the culinary attention they deserve, but Nancie McDermott illustrates how soups can be elegant, hearty and a great way to pair vegetables with meat and seafood. Recipes of southern traditional soups like gumbo and Brunswick stew are included in the book as well as a recipe for sweet potato biscuits.
