10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Recipes are good/Cooking without thawing is questionable By Reader2 First let me say, this book is very nicely formatted. There's an integrated table of contents which lists the individual recipes. For each recipe, there are two pages. (I have a Kindle Fire and use a font size 3) The first page includes the name of the recipe, a color photo, number of servings, and the cooking time. The second page of the recipe includes the ingredient list and the directions. Overall there's a nice selection of recipes and the ones I've tried have all been good. I've not frozen any of the recipes. I just put the ingredients straight into the slow cooker. Some of the recipes lack complete ingredient requirements. For example, the "Hawaiian Chicken" recipe requires "1 can pineapple (slices or chunks) drained and juice reserved" without telling you what "size" can to use. "French Thousand Island Chicken" requires "1 bottle thousand island dressing" but again it doesn't say what "size" bottle to use. "Shredded Mexican Chicken" requires "1 can of crushed tomatoes" but again no "size" is given. (All of those ingredients come in different sizes.)In addition to the ingredient issue, I have two other issues, first none of the recipes tell you what size slow cooker is needed. That's important. Second is the fact that the author says that you can freeze the complete meal and then just dump it frozen straight into the slow cooker and it will be safe to eat. The USDA says to always thaw meat before putting it into a slow cooker. The issue is that if one starts with frozen ingredients, slow-cookers are unable to quickly heat the contents past the "danger zone" of temperature at which bacteria multiply most rapidly. Even if the food is heated well past the danger zone afterward, thus killing bacteria, tasteless toxins produced by the bacteria will still remain. My slow cooker manuals, (I have 6 slow cookers) say "small" amounts of frozen meat are OK if warm liquid is added and the cooking time is increased by 1 to 2 hours." That's very different from placing an entire frozen meal in the slow cooker. Some of the recipes in this book are cooked on low for only 4-5 hours. I'm not sure how safe that is. None of the recipes give adjustments in cooking times for frozen vs thawed meals. I used the cooking time given and cooked "non-frozen" meals and they all turned out perfectly. So it would seem like you'd need to add cooking time if the meal was completely frozen when it was put into the slow cooker. Personally I'd recommend thawing the frozen meal in the fridge for a day before putting it in the slow cooker.

I have been dying to make some freezer meals for my family on my own after attending a party where we did i as a group. I downloaded this book and I must say it is exactly what I was looking for. It is full of simple, family friendly meals you can put together quickly. Last night I went out and bought the ingredients for 14 different recipes in the book and today I am preparing 2 of each one to freeze. My family is going to be very happy he next month or so. Be sure to check out the garlic chicken recipe. I had all the ingredients on hand to prepare it fresh last night so I did and it was delicious. My picky 8 year old son had 3 servings.

Pictures are not the pictures of the recipes but pictures taken from the Internet of different food? These are good recipes but save your 10 bucks. Google search crockpot freezer meals and you will find these recipes and many more great recipes. Lots of mistakes in the book as well....
