2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Would love conquer all? By J. Chambers Hector and Azmina lived in Port Hannah, Connecticut, just a short drive from the Big Apple. Hector, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who only knows the US and speaks only English, loved Azmina, the daughter of Iraqi immigrants. The two were from vastly different worlds, though: Hector worked multiple jobs just to afford his dirty, rundown apartment with several roommates, while Azmina, still in high school, had a stable family life with her parents and siblings.The two young people had nothing in common, but love could be a strange thing, and they soon found themselves meeting once a week in brief trysts at Hector's apartment. But there were serious obstacles in their path toward a future together. Could the two overcome these obstacles, or was their relationship ultimately doomed?"Witness" was an enjoyable short story that ended without answering that question. But it was a captivating slice-of-life look at some very interesting, sometimes quirky characters who populated Port Hannah.
