A 3 book - Steampunk/Cyberpunk -box set with a strong female protagonist flying high above the chaos of a post-apocalyptic world. I Will Breathe The year is 2836 - eight hundred years since The Great War. Liberty has grown up in this post-apocalyptic climate. Her home is an airship built by her adopted father. It has been five years since his death and each day is just another day of trying to survive in a hostile environment. That is until a dying friend of her father asks if she’ll take custody of a small, child-like robot. Into Forbidden After Liberty's death, her granddaughter, Harmony, inherits Boy and Airus. Harmony still travels the same routes as her grandmother - until one day when her brother and cousin turn up missing while scavenging for items in The Forbidden Lands. Fortunately, an escaped slave agrees to escort Harmony to the walled-off city called Freedom. While it isn’t a place Harmony would normally travel to, she's determined to rescue Walker and Journey from the group of huge, spike-like robots, aptly named Overseers. An Ill Wind A quick trip up the east coast quickly turns into a life and death experience for Harmony when hurricane-force winds plunges her airship into the ocean. When Airus drifts upon a tiny island, she is faced with a deflated balloon, two broken robots, a damaged friction engine and the fear of running out of fresh water. This might be enough to discourage the bravest heart, but Harmony is determined to stay alive. She simply refuses to believe she'll never see her family or Griffin again.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Fantastic Series By Fantasy Book Lane It's safe for me to call myself a fan of this series. I Will Breathe, book one, is probably my favorite of the trio. There's plenty of action throughout as well as great character development. I highly recommend this series to others.Review of I Will Breathe:When I picked this up, I was expecting a steampunk adventure. Well, adventure is what I normally get when I read steampunk, but I quickly figured out that this story was very different. It's a character driven novel with a moderate amount of action, but it draws an emotional response that I wasn't prepared for.I never expected to tear up and worry over a robot, but Ms. Puckett managed to stab me in the heart with the endearing little character Boy. Normally, I'd find a robotic child extremely creepy and run screaming from the room. But Boy is so innocent and loveable that I couldn't help loving him as much as Liberty comes to.Liberty begins as independent and rough around the edges. Well, she stays that way, but she begins to learn how wonderful it is to have companions, in a world where people spend their lives all alone. Love has all but disappeared, and as a result, humans are on their way to extinction. Liberty was content to journey alone, finding whatever treasures were left after the Great War. As it turns out, she will find even greater treasures in companionship. Now Liberty is able to share those treasures with those she has come to love. Her outlook changes dramatically and for the better. She is a wonderful character, staying true to herself while still managing to evolve. That's good writing.I must also mention that I loved the way apples and honey were presented as something so precious and beautiful. It reminded me of how much we take for granted. It was easy to put myself in Liberty's position, experiencing a bleak future in a dying world.Review of Into Forbidden:Harmony faces grave danger while attempting to rescue her brother and cousin. Her path leads her to a new friend, and the possibility of love.I'm not sure why Ms. Puckett writes short fiction. This would make an excellent full-fledged novel. There is so much to this world, and so much depth in these hundred or so pages, and it left me wanting a lot more! Naturally, I'll be reading the next book in the series, but I'm sure it will never be enough. Yes, that is a compliment! The world where Harmony finds herself is a complete mess. War has devastated the land, and she travels high above it all in her airship. She's tough while still remaining human, and I love that about her. She never becomes cliche or predictable. In finding Griffin, I think she's found an excellent match. He's brave and loyal, and the two make a great pair. This is one instance where a budding romance didn't detract at all from the action of the book. There's tons of action packed into these pages, and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The robots were fascinating as well. Yes, there are bad ones, but I was delighted to see the return of Boy from book 1, and that he's in good condition though he's picked up some habits over the years. :) I enjoy that robots can be given their own personalities beyond some programmer's whim.Only two things bothered me about this story. First, there are a handful of typos that were just plain obnoxious. One comes at a time when the line of dialogue should be delivered with force, but it loses its luster when the words are out of order. Secondly was the length. Everything went by so fast! I would love to see this slowed down and the pages filled with all the details. What was it like being held by robots? What peril did Molly face? Those scenes could have been amazing, and I know Ms. Puckett has the talent to write them. She has a captive audience, and we're all begging for more.Review of An Ill Wind:Unlike book 2, this installment of the Forbidden Series is not action packed. Instead, it focuses more on Harmony and her overall character development. It gives us readers a more in depth view of her relationship with Boy, his past relationship with Liberty, and Molly is given a voice as well. There really aren't a million things to say since there's no grand adventure. But, as a fan of this series, I will say that despite the lack of action, I really enjoyed it. I was grateful to know Harmony better as she works on her airship and reflects on her life. By the end I was pleased with how things turn out and look forward to more steampunk adventures in the future. A short, but fulfilling story.
