Informative with detailed turn of events from its beginning to what the wine industry has become in America. What amazed me to no end the people involved in America's wine history, their last name well renowned and still exist. You will read about Napa Valley boosters, wine pioneers, winemakers, Connoisseurs, successors to principal founders, innovations, etc. American and non-American to premium and super premium brands, fruit fanatic, now that is funny. So much information concerning 'wine' so much to absorb. I will not pretend to know a whole lot about that velvety liquid but I can tell you I was educated to know something about it. I always felt like the author was trying to include too much information without much success . The book feels disjointed, boring at times and forgettable. Would not recommend . Time not well spent .

Author makes too many factual errors showing that his research was somewhat limited. Examples: He refers to Almaden as a Napa winery, it was not. He disparages Carignan as a poor quality grape, when it's actually pretty good when not grown in the San Joaquin Valley and irrigated to enormous yields. Grenache has the same issues.Many other small errors cause this to be less than it should be. This could be the penultimate history on the subject, if rigorously edited and reissued as a revised edition.
