By Kathleen This book is going to give me cavities!I had never made candy before reading Sally's Candy Addiction. It seemed too intimidating! While every recipe in the book looks amazing, I decided to get into the fall mood and make Pumpkin Spice Toffee right away. I'm not going to lie - my first batch was not very good! I made the mistake of skipping right to the recipe, ignoring all of Sally's helpful hints that preceded the instructions (don't make my mistake! Read Sally's tips first!) Before attempting the recipe again, I read Sally's instructional chapters, reread the recipe, and took my time. The second batch of toffee was uh-mazing! My husband and I ate all of it within one week. When I made another batch for my sister's birthday party, it was completely devoured within hours - that toffee is addicting!After making the toffee, I tackled a classic chocolate fudge. It was soo creamy and delicous. I can't wait to try out the birthday cake fudge next - it looks so yummy in the photos!Many of these recipes are definitely more difficult than most of Sally's blog recipes - candy requires careful attention to temperature and timing. I'd definitely recommend taking your time and being verrrry careful with these recipes, especially if you're new to candy making like me!Sally also includes a chapter of "Just add candy" recipes, where you add store bought candy to baked treats - perfect if you want to make something quickly, instead of starting from scratch :)

By Kerry What I love about this book is that there is a great mix of serious candy recipes alongside some fast, easy recipes which totally hit the mark. Let's start with the recipes for us beginners. Pretzel M&Ms Puppy Chow - I took this to a party and it was inhaled by adults and children. Total crowd pleaser and took 10 whole minutes to make. Easy Pretzel Toffee - I made this for my neighborhood bake sale and it disappeared. Peanut butter fudge - a classic, super easy recipe that I will be making over and over again during the holidays.As soon as my candy thermometer arrives I will immediately tackle the Chocolate Sea-Salt Caramels and Salted English Toffee. I plan on working my way to up the Saltwater Taffy, which seems slightly intimating, but as always with Sally’s super approachable instructions I’m confident I’ll succeed.The Just Add Candy chapter is an excellent addition. You get some classic Sally recipes, like The Great Milky Way Cake, Whoppers Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Ultimate Peanut Butter Brownies. I’m a total convert to Sally’s cookies recipes and use her base recipe all the time.It goes without saying that you get the same excellent photography and personable tone that you’ll find on Sally’s blog. Highly recommend this book!

I have made a few recipes already. The cookies and creme fudge is so very good! The photos are just beautiful in this book and the step by step instructions are easy to follow. So many wonderful candy recipes in here. I just love Sally's style of writing and how much time she puts into her recipes so they are easy for us to make.

By Aroid fan Lynden Swift presents us with one of the first attempts, in botanical literature, to bridge the divide between the printed format and the electronic. At a time when things are diminished to save money, nothing about this delightful printed book is small. At over 330 pages the book is written in a very easy to read manner and this is assisted by larger than usual font and white space.Lynden's passions for photography and for the native Arums are combined to provide a reference that is second to none. The beautiful full page photography ranges from stunning landscapes to highly creative closeups.Massive research has gone into this production and the chapters can be read in any order. Almost every aspect of "Lords and Ladies" is documented and referenced.The book has been optimised for the electronic age and is available for Ipad. Because the images are high resolution you can blow them up to enjoy them in greater detail. Many of the references are internet links and so the book becomes an access platform to easily access the core material that the book is based on. Whereas the book will give many hours of enjoyment and learning, the electronic version will allow you to spend days getting lost in the world of this wonderful plant.I am old fashioned. I still enjoy turning pages and getting lost in a book though I expect that the future will be the electronic version. I congratulate Lynden for taking this step to introduce us to some of what future publishing holds.As an Arum enthusiast this book is a must and my review copy sits proudly on my bookshelf, alongside Prime's "Lords and Ladies" and Boyce's "The Genus Arum".This is a book which will satisfy the Aroid enthusiast, the herbalist as well as people wanting a beautiful "coffee table" book.The complimentary website "http://www.wildarum.co.uk/" and Facebook page "https://www.facebook.com/wildarumbook" give a great taste of what makes this book so wonderful. By Louisa Mae Where do I start with this one… These short stories pack so much into them and then leave you hanging, begging for more. Poor Sebastian was left in such a state at the end of the last book, and now his life has taken another dramatic turn. Robert is his knight in shining armour, but will it tarnish when Seb realises there is so much he doesn’t know about the man who has literally turned his life upside down since the night they met at the Hilton Hotel in Leeds.He isn’t really running away from his problems, he is simply taking cover while the storm blows over, but the storm simply takes a change in direction and follows him to. Seb is trying so hard to fit in with Robert’s life and see if they have more in common than just their burning desire and need for each other and smoking hot sex.Seb really is back on top form with this latest adventure, he seems to suffer from constant foot in mouth disease which probably is exacerbated by the fact that if he thinks it, he says it. I adore him for that. He has a real innocence about him and it shines through more in this book than any of the others.Their path was never going to be an easy one to travel, and we get to hear more about Robert and his past which… well no spoilers from me you will have to read an see what happens.All I will say is, you will have literal laugh out loud moments, and then moments where all you want to do it take Seb in your arms and hug him tight.Another brilliant outing for these characters, and I am really gonna miss him when he finishes giving me Knights To Remember.

I know I say that with each one but in this one we get to learn so much about Robert, his past and his true feelings.What can i say about my boy Sebastian!! He is such a sweetheart I absolutely adore him and in this book you will fall so much more in love with him.Sebastian is staying at Roberts house while Robert tries to sort out that crazy ex client Anthony that has stalked Seb.Sebastian is questioning his chances of fitting into Roberts life and if he feels the same way towards him as he does Robert.Things seem to be looking up until a call comes in that has Sebastian questioning someone in Robert's past... So now is where you will be biting your nails and screaming at your reader. The way Sebastian handles the situation is pure EPIC I was hysterical and quite shocked at the outcome but there is that small cliffhanger we are left with which makes you even more excited for the next book.This series consists of a short story per month but each one packs such a big punch and that is what is so amazing about this author Nicole Colville her writing is absolutely Brilliant and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next .If you haven't started this series yet I highly recommend you go One Click Now!! LOVED IT By Carolyn Buck I know I'm late reading this latest installment of Knights, but I had to finish rereading the Hidden Series by this talented author. As Robert takes Sebastian under his wing, protecting him from his stalker, they continue to learn more and more about one another. However, love is never easy, and theirs is no exception. I cannot wait to see how and if they over come their differences, if they do. "Love" is a word easily spoken, and as an avid reader of the M/M genre, I cannot wait to see how they overcome any pitfalls that may come their way. I love this series and that has never changed from book one and I know I will continue loving it to the end.

Fang Kate Blackwell’s debut collection of short stories takes us to the South, but it’s not Flannery O’Connor’s outsized Gothic South, nor is it the catty ladies and lush magnolias South of popular entertainment. It’s just a warm, intimately described world, a little removed from rat race ambitions and rapidly changing pop culture. Like the writing itself, the setting doesn’t intrude, but instead allows the characters to be individuals, slowly discovering themselves in the crucible of ancient dramas: death of a loved one, aging, childbirth, adultery, changing expectations.The discoveries they make are all different. Some are venerable Southern tales, told with a fresh voice. In The Secret Lives of Peonies, a woman who was raised by a hostile, sex-shaming mother finds that an affair she describes as “healthy, human, even obscurely right” hasn’t been right at all. Instead of expanding her world, she loses even her great love of its everyday beauty. Mother’s humiliating voice reaches across the years in triumphant reproach.In The Queen of May, we see the complex relationship between a wealthy old white woman and her favorite black waiter. It’s unbalanced and artificial, redolent of centuries-old injustices and yet still marked by genuine fondness on one side and genuine kindness on the other. While the drunk old lady is being driven home by the waiter, her lonely daughter-in-law dances naked on the lawn, watched from the shadows by her own husband. “She had no idea what would happen when the dance was over – what would he say? She let that thought go as she went on turning and weaving across the lawn, dancing only for him whose clapping hands echoed the beating in her bare and hopeful breast.” The losses are coming for both these faded women, but they hold on to what moments they can, even when they can’t even imagine a future.Other stories struggle with the limits of understanding and action. In one of my favorites, Heartbeatland, a young widow slowly discovers the richness of the life her husband had lived outside of their marriage, as she begins to admit to herself how impoverished their actual home life was. In the simple, intimate language of a domestic story, Heartbeatland is a profoundly moving meditation on the nature of human consciousness. In Carpe Diem, we begin to wonder how much better off we are even if we do understand. In this story, a middle aged nursery school teacher sees the man a lonely little boy will become and understands in an instant the childhood wounds her own lover still carries.Every story in this entire collection is lively, beautiful, and rich with meaning. Perhaps most importantly of all, they are imbued with great love for the people who inhabit them. Whether Blackwell is telling us stories of lived or imagined lives, she is clearly championing the value of people who might otherwise be overlooked. As she says in My First Wedding, “I regret that my own daughters never knew her and would not now easily understand if I tried to tell them about her. They would find her life banal, I am sure, and as distant from their own as those intimate interiors by Hals and Vermeer. I, however, have learned to appreciate the beauty of still lives, and it saddens me to think they will be lost. For who will remember women like my mother, my aunt, and Augusta? Blackwell's writing blends the elegance and entertainment of southern storytelling with her own unique voice. It was one of those books to which I wanted to return and didn't want to put down. No story disappointed.

In "My First Wedding" narrator unnamed recalls the first look at the wedding of Southern bride hood. This was when August, her cousin married a Yankee. Ann and David go to live in North Carolina in "Heartbeatland". They are known as "the Schoolmaster" and "Princess Annabel". One of the disturbing 5 page stories is "Pepper Hunt". A story about a divorced man and his daughter having lunch. There is one uniting theme in these 12 short stories and that is how ritual allows both distance between people and also allows them to live together. This group of stories was written by a very talented author and should make fans of Southern short stories very interested and entertained. I would recommend this collection of Ms. Blackwell's stories to anyone who loves southern storytelling, elegance and entertainment along with so much more. This is one of those books that you want to keep on your shelf to read and re-read. I love how her heroines are smart, funny and sexy bbw women, not just pathetic creatures who magically transform when the hot hero notices them. There's a cute twist in this story that brings the heroine and rock star hero together but the chemistry between them is electric and the sex scenes are super hot! This a very well written story with compelling characters and a great read.

Do you want to make a Nutella cake in a cup, it's got that too. It's way more than a book that tells you all of the things you can put nutella on (although that book would fill up a kindle). I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes nutella and for those who don't, I probably wouldn't be talking to you.I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

It's about Nutella, so right there is amazing.When I came across this book my Nutella loving husband instantly wanted it! Then the ingredients and how to, which is step by step!This book even gives some background on Nutella. So many recipes look amazing. I am going to have to make a major investment in huge jars of Nutella if my husband has any say. Overall I'm excited about this book. The author was able to build a lot of atmosphere and mood, even in a short story. The house was the most compelling character in the story to me, and I'd read more stories in this setting.There were a few typos missed in the editing stage, but nothing too distracting.

Channing Speedy Reads is a collection of very short stories that are ideal for having on a portable reading device for those moments when you're waiting for a bus or an appointment and would love to have something to read, but don't have much time.The stories are well written and well edited and there is enough variety to bring a surprise with each story. They are generally family friendly and most would be suitable for reading to a child waiting with you, though an exception or two like A Mining Disaster might bring out strong emotions too intense for a very young child.Most are what I would call heartwarming. The first story, Memory Lane, has a very Irish feel to it (though the author is English) and is a wonderful tribute to mothers. One of my favourites, Roses For My Love, had a surprise tearjerker ending. Some had more drama, like Never Say Never which demonstrated the fallibility of assumption.Each story draws the reader into a mini-world of its own for those few minutes it takes to read them. A brilliant resource for avid readers on the go.

Each story is a small snippet into characters’ lives, some sad and touching yet all were full of love. Some I couldn’t get enough of and would love to see developed into longer stories such as Misconceptions which I think could be an awesome novel, the granny having so much character!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I have OCPD... I don't think anyone else reviewing this book has ever actually dealt with it. By Jon J. I have OCPD. And before I review, I will say that I appreciate some of what Mr. Ethridge writes regarding the positive aspects of OCPD in why we approach things the way we do. I am also a pastor, counselor, and Army chaplain, so I won't discount his use of scripture (though in the context used, I honestly don't think it's beneficial; more on this below). I will also readily admit, based on my own research and experience, that the vast majority with OCPD are not only highly functional (some might call us workaholics, and 'perfectionist' students regarding study), but few will seek help until it causes significant rifts in relationships we care about. And because it is so deeply rooted, it deeply effects us emotionally. While some might consider our thoughts and concerns as in inconsequential, it's a big deal to us... As any counselor will readily admit, if it is significant to the sufferer, it is significant (whether or not the counselor considers it a big deal; you don't discount it)First, I am honestly shocked that this author wouldn't imagine a person such as me (with OCPD) actually checking out all the reviews of every product he's written prior to purchasing a book of his... Of the twelve 5 star reviews of this book given at the time I write this, all but two have only reviewed his books, giving only 5 star reviews (on both this and his $140 book; go figure). Almost all of which also start "Dear sir" or something similar, indicating they're likely written by the same person. Verbage is close enough to also circumstantially affirm this assessment. I initially wasn't going to say who I thought it was, but even checking the "Surprise Me" for looking inside the book, you will see the same address and terminology in how he addresses his readers (AKA yes, I think he wrote his own reviews, 16 times[this and the other book], from 5 different accounts he created). But enough on that...Second, as noted above, not many will seek help unless something significantly impacting them (usually a very close relationship) is critically effected. If seeking help, there is a level of desperation to 'fix the problem,' and the so-called guarantees (e.g. "only hope") this author has published range between $50 to $140! As a counselor and chaplain, I've worked with and read a number of works on grief, trauma, and crisis counseling. None of which approaches $140, let alone the $76.10 he's asking for on this book. Most highly commendable works are in the $30-$40 range.Third, as a pastor/chaplain, I have no issue with using scripture in context, especially when the reader/counselee wants it incorporated into their treatment. But you don't sneak it in, or throw it in people's faces without permission. There is nothing on the front or back cover regarding the inclusion of scripture, nor on the beginning pages. If you check out the other books he's written, yes, there are a number of works in which he clearly includes scripture and spirituality, on the cover. However, even on the numerous pages in this book where he references scripture, much of it is essentially cut-and-paste, or as we call in the pulpit, eisogesis, and largely taken out of context to make the author or preacher's point.Treatment in the realm of OCPD is severely lacking, largely due to the fact that most with it will never seek help, and those who work or live with us 'just deal with it.' I hate to say, at this point, my best recommendation is Workaholics Anonymous Book of Recovery, based on AA's book of recovery. It doesn't deal directly with OCPD, but does address much of what we have to work through. Mr. Ethridge's books, especially this and his $140 work, I wouldn't touch with a 20ft pool until it was $15 or less...On a side note, additionally not impressed by the font size, making the book 'longer' than it really is, or the fact that I found a grammatical typo on page 2 (page 2! for crying out loud, and not the only one in the book)... :: sigh :: I'm done.

Claiming to be the only “scientific” method yet there are no references, no footnotes no bibliography and not a hint of real science or research. It is a nice self help book and should be sold as such. I felt deceived. It is a good $20 book, not worth nearly what I paid for it. I waited too long to return it so I am stuck with it. (oversized font as well, I really don't like that)

Michaels This isn't actually a review, its actually more of a question and comment to the readers who have purchased and or the author.WHY IS THIS BOOK SO EXPENSIVE? Its only a 308 page book! Is is even a hard cover? I didn't take notice. All I know is that if this is intended to be a self-help book for the average person dealing with the issue described, then why price it at a rate outside of the financial reach of non-PhD. types? I mean--this is not a college textbook, is it?! All I know is that while it looks like a good read that may actually offer real help on the issue, there's no way myself and I'm sure many others can afford to drop $70 on a book. Maybe I can find a copy used after a few year when some place like half price starts to carry it. Until then I don't know if I will be getting the help I need on the subject matter.
