"Nature shows us only the tail of the lion. But there is no doubt in my mind that the lion belongs with it even if he cannot reveal himself to the eye all at once because of his huge dimension." - Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein (1879-1955) needs no formal introduction. He is remembered around the world as one of history's most brilliant geniuses, and one of its most influential scientists. Einstein is often regarded as the father of modern physics, and he received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect". And though he is best known for his contributions to science with over 300 scientific papers, the witty Einstein also wrote over 150 non-scientific works, many of them infused with his humor. The entire package of his life and career has ensured that people continue to describe intelligent people as "Einsteins".

Einstein's greatest and most famous theory is the theory of relativity, which fundamentally changed the understanding of physics and astronomy during the 20th century. When first published, relativity superseded a 200-year-old theory of mechanics put forth by Isaac Newton. The theory of relativity overturned the concept of motion from Newton's day, into all motion is relative. Time was no longer uniform and absolute. Therefore, physics is no longer understood as space by itself, and time by itself. Instead, an added dimension had to be taken into account in the form of curved spacetime. Time now depended on velocity, and contraction became a fundamental consequence at appropriate speeds.

A GENIUS, A CHAUVINIST, A PACIFIST By Vickie Woodard Albert Einstein was many things in his life and continues to be many things though he's been dead more than fifty years. I kept a poster in my classroom with what was probably his goofiest picture and his quote that, "Imagination is more important than intelligence."It amazed me that my slowest students could quote the theory of relativity, but my brightest didn't know what the letters stood for. Understanding is at least as important as knowing. If I hadn't decided to be cremated I'd have had that put on my tombstone. The man's attitude towards women disgusted me. I knew he had simply dropped his first wife and once read that she may have written that famous formula. But the things he insisted upon!! I would have had his visitors sign in (on the pretext that good old Al might want to send flowers later ) and then publish a 'Mrs. Einstein Tells All' book. Bet it would've been a best seller. The American public has always enjoyed reading trash about famous people. At least the cash from his Nobel Prize was well spent. First time I'd heard that story. The trouble with writing a book about such a famous person is finding something new to say. I'm glad the authors spent little time on the Manhattan Project. That era of Einstein's life must be the most publicized of all, including his quote about his involvement. Who can blame him? I don't think anyone knew how fierce the bombs would be, or how long the effects would lastThe most interesting piece I've read about Albert Einstein was published in the Readers Digest. AE saw a man get up and leave a musical program given in a private home so he got up and followed the man. The guy complained that he had never enjoyed such music and Al took him under his wing.Instead of trying to explain Bach or Mozart, the physics genius sought out a room with a musical instrument in it (pardon me for forgetting if it was a piano or a violin). He then played the most basic baby music he could, music that went down to the stranger's level, to try and interest him.And it worked. Each time the stranger's interest was piqued, Einstein played another piece of music just a tiny bit more complicated. The two of them spent hours alone in that room. But when they left, Einstein had taught him to love classical music; he had won him over bit by bit.I didn't expect to see that story in this book, but still, nothing in this book can touch it.But there were plenty of facts in this book I didn't know: his attitude toward his own religion, his feelings about the Japanese people, his relationship with his children, what happened to his first child...Too many things to name. That's why the book got five stars.

Cowen Legendary Scientists: The Life of Albert Einstein is a good book that I found pretty comprehensive for only being 64 pages. The included pictures and even Albert Einstein's own quotes about his life and career. The book did a good job at showing how important Albert Einstein was to science and humanity. But the book also showed you what he was like as a man. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.Thank you for reading my review.

"This deeply enjoyable journey to Liavek will be of interest to longtime fans and newcomers alike."―PUBLISHERS WEEKLYTwo stalwarts of science fiction combine to pen a dazzling set of stories wild and whimsical, thrilling and powerful.Liavek is a hot, busy trade city, situated on the southern shore of the Sea of Luck at the mouth of the Cat River. In Liavek, magic is based on one’s “birth luck” and the length of time one’s mother was in labor. Everyone has luck, but using it is another matter. Luck, or magic, must be invested annually in some object outside oneself; only then can it be used to power spells. And investing one’s magic is difficult and dangerous. Prospective magicians who fail find their magic draining away, and with it, their life. From that mad and wonderful seed, Wrede and Dean create an enthralling set of stories, where a god is trapped in the body of a chipmunk, where a play has the potential to incite a riot and change a nation, and where a family is coming apart at the seams, and going to enormous lengths to stitch itself back together. All of the stories are tied together by the unforgettable character of Granny, Ka’Riatha―the one the Book of Curses calls the Guardian of the S’Rian Gods. Granny moves through each story, casting spells and bringing her tart brand of wisdom to a world come undone. This spellbinding set is perfect for fans of both titans of the genre, and will bring equal parts thrilled gasps and charmed smiles to readers everywhere.

Review "This deeply enjoyable journey to Liavek will be of interest to longtime fans and newcomers alike."―PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

About the Author For more than twenty years, Patricia C. Wrede (b. 1953) has expanded the boundaries of young-adult fantasy writing. Her first novel, Shadow Magic (1982), introduced Lyra, a magical world in which she set four more novels. Her other series include the Enchanted Forest Chronicles; the Cecelia and Kate novels, co-written with Caroline Stevermer; the Mairelon books, which take place in Regency England; and the Old-West Frontier Magic series. Wrede lives and works in MinnesotaPamela Dean is the author of The Secret Country trilogy (The Secret Country, The Hidden Land, and The Whim of the Dragon); Tam Lin; The Dubious Hills; Juniper, Gentian, and Rosemary; and a handful of short stories. She was born in the Midwest of the USA, and aside from a few aberrant periods spent in upstate New York and Massachusetts, she has stubbornly remained there. She attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, which in a somewhat altered state is the setting for her novel Tam Lin. She lives in a cluttered duplex in Minneapolis with her chosen family and a variable number of cats. She enjoys hiking, gardening, cooking, reading, being a part of local science-fiction fandom, and attending the theater. She understands that writers are supposed to have colorful careers, but on the whole she prefers as quiet a life as the family and the cats will permit.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. old favourites and some fantastic new ones By atalanta Liavek fans will find they have read most of these excellent tales before - but it is worth getting this for the new stories. I found myself reading them all from the start, the new ones fell seamlessly into place. Lovely work.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Short stories with a difference. By Sharlane Jarvis Wonderful concept for a book. Five like minded authors get together and design a world that has all the essentials for a great story - chocolate, good coffee and magic! Then they write their own stories based in this land, Liavek and use each other's characters. This is a collection of short stories by two very talented writers that reads more like a novel than a collection of stories. Very enjoyable. I want to visit this place again!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Hurrah for Liavek! By K. Worthington I heard about the Liavek stories many, many years ago, but unlike the Bordertown anthologies, I was never able to find these books. Many of my favourite authors participated in creating these books. So when I found this one, I bought it without a moment's hesitation. It was fantastic! The stories were nicely interwoven, the characters were fascinating, and the plot moved along nicely. I truly hope more tales from the city of Liavek are published for kindle. I want more!!

Twin sisters with long unpronouncable names, but "Cannie" and "Cantie" for short, are left to make a journey by themselves. Their Mother has planned everything out for them and made all the preparations, but is not home when the girls get dressed and take everything with them that their Mom had chosen for them. Cannie, who has the same dissappointments and doubts that Cantie does, follows her Mother's choices beleiving that she must know best; Cantie is more concerned with how she looks than how well prepared she is, and so makes her own choices. The journey gets underway and the reasons for each choice become clear as the day unfolds.A wonderful moral story that is truly a classic, as fresh today as when it was written. The perfect thing to read to children who "have their moods" and a treasure to pass down from mother to daughter to great granddaughter. The most common version is a board cover with linen binding, ivy design block print placards front and back, title in contrasting red ink -- a beautiful little book for having been published in 1906.

Like Wayne said "You got shark but not tilapia"? For a little creepy place in the middle of nowhere your lucky they have anything. Where this short read was a little bit different then most of Everson's books. I wish it would have been longer. Would have liked to see it develop a little more and had the chance to see how far the story could have went. I always like it when Everson puts music or musical references in his books. This book did one thing. It made me want to listen to The B52's Rock Lobster. Great song I haven't heard in a while. If you get a chance check out Everson's full size novels. He's a great author that should not be overlooked.

Too bad it couldn't of been a bit longer. It would've been interesting to see where Everson could've taken the story.

By Saradia Chatterjee A Humorless Death is a short story that weaves a plot of revenge behind the funny faces of circus clowns. Little boy Kevin goes to a circus with his Grandpa. He is mesmerized by the ostentations of the circus and the fascinating trickery of clown Zozo, who, on Grandpa’s insistence, performs some tricks for Kevin. That’s when he decides he is going to be a clown in future. Kevin grows up, and in spite of other opportunities, he clings to his passion for clowning. He goes to Zozo in hopes of becoming the latter’s apprentice. His hopes are shattered. With a feeling of vengeance bloating in him, he assures himself he will still be a clown and he will have the last laugh. What follows is a tale of horror unfolding behind the silly acts of circus clowns. The story is unpredictable. The unexpected happens and it is sure to make readers jump in their skin. The desperation of ordinary human beings when governed by a troubled mind can be very intimidating and this story shows that fact. It is a peek into human psychology. The writing style is impressive. However, for me, the story looked very promising in the first few pages, but as I proceeded with it, it lost some of its charm. A short story of this genre usually leaves behind strong reverberations and even after I’m done reading, I cannot help thinking about the characters and the plot. That was not the case with this story. I thought it ended very abruptly. The last part came as a surprise, of course, but it seemed like an unnecessarily quick conclusion. The passions of the protagonist didn’t strike me as quite strong but the story demands that the protagonist have strong sentiments. I was not particularly attracted to any of the characters. Overall, I would rate this book as average. But if you want to get hold of a story that has something thrillingly unique about it, you can grab this one.

Like all of us, Kevin wants to see his dream come true, and despite his efforts, life hasn't quite turned out the way he expected it. In JR Bournville's debut short story, we follow Kevin from childhood to adulthood, among the archaic world of the circus and clowning. What struck me about A Humourless Death is just how realistic it was. It appears simple on the surface, but it hits our inner selves. Kevin is Kevin, sure, but he is so much more than that. Kevin is us. We want him to become a clown, because that means we get to have our dreams come true too. A Humourless Death is a clever short story that will even shock you as its climax appears. It captures the spirit of every reader, it has emotion, it has pizazz, it has tricks up its sleeve.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. nooooooo!!! By Cali Reader Okay, when the author said it wasn't a happy ending, I had no idea he really meant it. Damn!!! I don't want to spoil anything but.... Didn't see that coming. Can't wait to see what Wilson has next for us.

By Charles Young Although I typically want a HEA in the stories I read, I found this installment takes a refreshing twist on the way most people expect stories to conclude. Mr. Wilson pulls out some very unexpected narratives in this book and paints a real world picture that all relationships that start wild and hot do not stay that way. The ending of the story is especially poignant by representing the fact that things happen in life that we don't always have the answer for. This story definitely causes a deep sense of emotion from within the reader. Whether you love it or not, you'll definitely remember it.

While I was pissed at the author for the way the book ended, as well as the decisions the characters made, I must say, I was still impressed with him. In this last book of the series, Mr Wilson shows how much he's grown and improved as a writer. The sentences flow much more smoothly and the dialogue is well developed. The story totally sucked me in until it ended with a "bang". Quite literally, I might add :)As I said, I was seriously pissed at the ending and hope, hope, hope we get more.
